Delivery with a difference!
Eco-friendly bikes the new take-away transport for Domino’s
They’re new and they’re novel – so next time you order your pizza from Domino’s expect a chap relying on pedal-power to come knocking on the door. In a throw back to the good old days with a delivery boy on a bike, Domino’s in Swindon are using electric powered bicycles instead of the conventional motorcycle for all their door-to-door deliveries within 2 miles. The new mode of take-away transport is the idea of Steve Carr who figured that an electric bike would be a great way for Domino’s staff to save fuel, keep fit and do their bit for the environment. "And I can definitely vouch for the fitness side!" he told us, when we caught up with him on a delivery in Old Town. "The bikes are brilliant and, yes, the hills keep me fit. But these bikes are faster than they look. When charged up there's no loss of time. "For addresses outside the 2 mile area we use our new electric moped to make sure we deliver on-time." Quiet For those used to hearing the whale of a moped in the early hours, the new eco-bikes are also a God-send - they're silent! "We deliver until 3am, so it makes a big difference. With no engine noise no one can here me coming!" Look out for the new bikes in Swindon right now. |
